The name
Why 1602.
On March 20, 1602, the States General of the Netherlands merged a handful of competing trading houses into a single joint-stock company. The Dutch East India Company received a 21-year monopoly on trade with Asia and is widely considered the world's first multinational corporation.
The monopoly mattered less than the structure underneath it. Pooled capital, shared risk, and a governance system let the company run operations at a scale no single trading house could handle on its own.
We named the firm after that structure, not the empire that came after it. Infrastructure built correctly once, inside a company's own walls, still does the heavy lifting today. We build it for AI and software instead of ships and trade routes.
